Mere Baba Muktananda

As I was driving home tonight, I relished the beautiful full moon. I was filled with the mysterious, magical feelings of longing for, and connectedness with, God. My day had started with the blessings of chanting with Gurumayi in satsang on Baba’s lunar birthday.

When I arrived home and opened my computer, the homepage of the Siddha Yoga path website was still open, with the deeply moving artwork of Baba’s statue silhouetted against the stars and the moon. Scrolling down, I clicked to join in chanting Mere Baba Muktananda with Gurumayi. As I chanted wholeheartedly and recalled the full moon of this night, I felt myself merging into the artwork.

Closing my eyes, I was transported back to the Shakti Mandap at Shree Muktananda Ashram, when I offered my voice with a thousand others as we sang our love and appreciation for “my Baba Muktananda” along with Gurumayi.

Now over thirty years later, my whole being is still fresh with waves of gratitude for our Siddha Yoga path. God and I are now one eternally.

Chanting Mere Baba Muktananda with Gurumayi on the Siddha Yoga path website early in the morning on Baba’s Solar Birthday was great prasad. My heart softened and gradually opened as my love for him poured out. Simultaneously, I could feel his strong presence within me. This was a unique and memorable experience. I was lost in the chant for a long time as he continued cushioning me with his love. Throughout the day I was full of smiles and centered as I went about the day. That night, as I slept, the chant remained deep within my being.

This morning when I awoke, I noticed some negative thoughts arising within myself. So I turned to the Siddha Yoga path website and started to chant Mere Baba Muktananda. While chanting, I started to thank Baba ji for the beautiful life he has given me. While listening to the beautiful melody and the voices of the music ensemble, I was able to set aside all those negative thoughts and just remember the many good things in life.

I could see that the vibration of chanting was changing my inner state toward joy. Slowly I began to think, “I am Shiva,” “So’ham” (I am That), and “Purno’ham” (I am perfect). In this way I saw that chanting in the morning even for a short while was a great practice for me in changing my inner state toward joy.

This is the namasankirtana which I listened to and sang, along with our beloved Shri Gurumayi, during my first visit to Gurudev Siddha Peeth way back in 1983. I felt as if I were meeting with Baba Muktananda physically and receiving his blessings. This namasankirtana made me experience the presence of Shri Gurumayi as the presence of Baba.

Now, whenever I listen to and sing this namasankirtana, I find myself in the presence of Baba and Shri Gurumayi in Gurudev Siddha Peeth and I experience a flow of indescribable bliss.

I am grateful to Shri Gurumayi for giving us the treasure of these namasankirtanas on the Siddha Yoga path website so that we can immerse ourselves in their nectar and experience the bliss of the Self whenever we wish.

As I chanted this namasankirtana, I gazed at the depiction of Baba’s statue in silhouette against the night sky at Gurudev Siddha Peeth. My heart melts in gratitude for what Baba has given to me through his grace, and what he continues to give to me and to humanity through the Siddha Yoga path. All cares dissolve and my heart becomes one with Gurumayi’s as we chant Baba’s name together.

Today, when I visited the Siddha Yoga path website, my heart leapt with joy and gratitude—which often happens. I love listening to this recording of this namasankirtana because it feels like Gurumayi is singing directly to Baba. And as I listen, Gurumayi’s devotion for Baba inspires my own. I experience this namasankirtana as an invocation, as a prayer of love. I feel like it is asking Baba Muktananda to bestow his shakti, his knowledge, and his grace upon us.

Singing Mere Baba Muktananda is, for me, like receiving a caress on the face or an intense hug. It is a balm for my heart, an eternal love story.

Yesterday evening, May 15, before the sun had set, a massive rainbow arched over the skies above Shree Muktananda Ashram. It stayed there for a while—a good half-hour, I’d say—and during this time there were brief periods of light rain and then of the sun shining through the clouds. The rainbow was a perfect half-circle from my vantage point, and it looked as though it were embracing the entire Ashram grounds.

At one point, I checked the time. It was early evening here, which meant that in India, Baba’s birthday was dawning. The rainbow must have appeared while the morning Arati was being sung in Gurudev Siddha Peeth.

It is so incredible and beautiful to hear this chant and to chant it along with Gurumayi. The shakti is so strong and uplifting, and I remember, “I have met a living angel on this earth!”

After I participated in the wonderful satsang in honor of Baba Muktananda’s Birthday, I continued chanting Mere Baba Muktananda, both silently and out loud. I did so while walking in the green, springtime forest, as I watched the trees and seemed to hear the soft breeze whispering the mantra. Following this satsang, I have been experiencing a state of great joy.

Hearing and chanting Mere Baba Muktananda makes me feel that my heart can be peaceful even during challenging times. Baba’s name is truly a gift to humanity, and the opportunity to chant his name along with our beloved Gurumayi is heavenly.
